Maile Ilac-Boeder

Maile has spent most of her career as a nonprofit executive, and that work brought her to Aurora, Nebraska, 18 years ago. But she’s always had an entrepreneurial spirit. She started her first business at just 15 years old. Today, those two sides of her life come together as co-owner of Espressions: Coffee & Community, LLC, where she combines some of the things she loves most: coffee, books, crafting, creativity, and community. Even better, she gets to do it alongside one of her best friends.

Some of Maile’s earliest memories of coffee are of sitting at the kitchen table with her Grandpa Jerry, sipping coffee while he taught her how to read the newspaper. She was about three years old, and they started with Beetle Bailey. Coffee has held a special place in her life ever since.

Over the years, Maile has worked in independent coffeehouses as well as at Starbucks in Minnesota, Michigan, and Oregon. Her interest in coffee has also become a lifelong hobby; she’s the kind of person who enjoys reading books about coffee, touring coffee plantations while traveling, and learning everything she can about what goes into a really great cup.

But coffee is only part of what makes Espressions feel like home to Maile. She’s also a lifelong reader and avid crafter who loves discovering new projects, learning new things, and finding creative ways to bring people together. For her, Espressions is a place where all of those things can coexist—a good cup of coffee, a great book, something creative to make, and a community of people to share it with.

Maile and her husband, John, have been married for 22 years and are parents to their 16-year-old son, Chaz. Their home is also happily shared with an assortment of dogs, kitties, and quail.

Co-Founder

Lisa

Lisa has only recently come to the coffee side of the world. She has only enjoyed coffee the last 10-15 years. Now, she has a baby espresso machine in her home,  is a co-owner of a coffee shop, and loves to drink coffee. She has marveled at the magic of Espressions: Coffee and Community. The last few years of managing the coffee shop has brought her a lot of joy. She loves to see people come in and sit with their friends or meet new friends over coffee.  All of the connections that have been made through our shop at Game Nights, Book Clubs, or other activities have been wonderful.

Lisa also loves books! She has been a life long reader. She has over 3,000 books in her home library and is always in search of new books. Besides loving to read books, Lisa also writes. She has published a short story. She is working at finishing another novel series as well as hoping to get a picture book or two out into the world. So Espressions expanding and joining the ranks as an independent bookstore just feels right.

Crafting is another hobby that Lisa enjoys. She spends hours crocheting, doing embroidery work, sewing, journaling, and building miniatures. She loves to spend time with other crafters and creatives. She hopes to see you at Espressions creating.
